In 2008, Finnish researchers reported plant stanols lowered total cholesterol by 10.8% and LDL cholesterol by 16.1%. You can get small amounts of plant stanols from fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains and other plant-based foods, or plant stanol-fortified foods.
